Changes took place in
political life. Factory owners and tradesmen
became increasingly important political figures. The future of whole
states began to depend on their success or failure.
The power held by kings decreased. A king was perhaps a figure of
authority, but if he didnt have modern technology or money, he was
unable to rule effectively.
Knights also, who had supported kings for a long time, were not their
old selves anymore. Some of them had become businessmen, while others were not as skilful
in business. They spent their parents' money and grew poor.
