Fortunately most people in the world were sufficiently well-intentioned.
They taught that one cannot fight injustice with injustice. The only way
to solve difficult problems is for the rich and poor to work together to
resolve them.

THE DISPUTE

The workers stood one side of the factory fence and the businessmen
stood on the other.

There was a feeling of trouble in the air.

The workers were dissatisfied. T lised polnud rahul. "We want higher
wages," they demanded. "Otherwise we won't come to work."

The businessen were also dissatisfied and replied: "We demand that you
work longer and faster. Otherwise we won't let you come to work."

"We want higher wages, higher wages," the workers demanded.

"Work better, work better," the businessmen repeated.

The situation became dangerous. The workers picked up stones, which they
planned to throw at the businesssmen, and the businessmen grabbed the
telephone - they wanted to call the police and the army to come and save
them.

But then a man in a grew coat appeared from around a corner. He was old
and a bit hunched over. He just walked past and didnt say a word.

But that was enough. In a moment the workers put their stones down. The
businessmen hung up their telephone and politely adjusted their ties.
The businessmen said to the workers: "O.K., as of tomorrow you will be
given a raise."

And the workers said to the businessmen: "Of course we will come to work
tomorrow. At eight o'clock sharp. Even if you can't pay us right now."

Then one man provoked the adversaries by saying: "Why should we make
concessions because of some man in a grey coat?" He hadn,t lived there
for very long. "What are you afraid of. Look how small he is!"

"Be quiet, you ignoramus," said the workers and businessmen in unison.
"Don't you know who he is? He is our school teacher. He taught us all
when we were children."

Things didn't end so well in some other countries where there weren't as many schools.There were lots of prisons in those countries and freedom of speech was
limited. One could work, though.
