They wanted to spend the evening by the fireside, but the women would not come. They said that they had to till the soil, otherwise there would be nothing to eat that winter. The men put their heads together. They all thought how they could get the work done as fast as possible. Soon they came upon a great idea. They decided to make use of that animal which had recently come from the forest to live near them, and was now eating grass in the field with the goats, lambs and cows. Know-it-all Bo had called the newcomer horse. The horse was led into the field. The men harnessed him to a large pine log using leather straps. The branches of the pine log were cut off up to a short distance from the stump. It looked like 100 hoes put together. The horse was led through the field. And what a wonder - the work was done before they could realize it. The women were very happy. Of course we will come to the fireside, they said. What do you call the thing you did the work so fast with? The men were at a loss for words, because they didnt know what to call the thing they had just invented. They called on know-it-all Bo, who was able to put a name to everything. Bo came. He looked at the instrument for a while and then said, Lets call it a harrow. Thats a nice short word, and I havent heard it before. Thank you Bo, the men and women all said. They also invited Bo to the fireside-party to eat roast moose with them. Im afraid I cant come, Bo said. He had some more work to do - Og, the chief of the neighbouring village had brought an animal home out of the bush and wanted Bo to give it a name and tell him how the animal could be used. According to Og, the animal was friendly, a bit pink, liked to poke at the ground with his nose and made the sound oink-oink all the time. What do you think ,what animal was it?.......................................................... |
